CANDLE CARE GUIDE
How To Burn Your Candle Safely
Place your candle on a stable, heat resistant surface. Light your candle in a well ventilated room and avoid any drafts, wind or humidity which can cause the candle to soot (black marks on the vessel), or cause rapid, erratic and uneven burning.
Upon burning your candle for the first time, make sure the melt pool has reached the edges of the vessel. This could range between 2-4 hours. Burning for less time could cause the candle to “tunnel”, also known as Candle Tunnelling, which will leave a build up of wax around the sides of the candle. Wax has a ‘memory’. If you only allow a small pool of wax to melt, subsequent burns will also burn to the same diameter thus creating a tunnel in the candle.
However, we suggest after the first burn to only light your candle for a maximum of 4 hours at one time as longer periods can cause the wicks to move, slant or soot the jar. For safety, we recommend that you leave at least 10mm of wax at the bottom of your vessel prior to disposal.
How To Care For Wicks
When your candle is lit, always keep the wax pool clean of any debris as this can act as a secondary wick causing your candle to burn faster. After extinguishing the flame, always centre and straighten the wick as burning for longer periods of time will deepen the melt pool and can cause the wick to slant.
Long or slanted wicks can create high flames, smoking or sooting. To prevent this, we suggest trimming the wick to 5mm after every burn, once the wax has set. If the wicks are left untrimmed, any future burns will be less fragrant.
Candle Burn Time
Our candle jars have varying maximum burn times depending on how they are cared for. Below is an approximate number of ‘burn hours’ for each of our candles when burnt correctly.
20cl Candles – 40 hours
50cl Candles – 50-60 hours
Triple wick candles will burn faster than candles with fewer wicks. However, they provide more flame, light and stronger scent throw.
CARE GUIDE FOR REED DIFFUSERS
To maintain your reed diffuser and keep your home fragranced for longer, we recommend following our reed diffuser care instructions below.
- Carefully remove the cap and stopper.
- Place the reeds inside the reed diffuser and replace the cap. The reeds are naturally porous and this allows for the gradual absorption of the liquid which then moves slowly up the reeds before scenting the surrounding air.
- To increase the life of your reeds, we advise turning them carefully once a week. The more space around your reed diffuser, the better for releasing scent throw.
- We advise that you place your reed diffuser on a protective plate or mat in order to protect surfaces from any spillages. Any reed diffuser liquid which comes into contact with materials such as wallpaper, curtains, polished or synthetic surfaces or fabrics may cause staining & permanent marking.
- When the liquid in your reed diffuser has fully evaporated, simply wash the vessel out with warm soapy water.
Reed Diffusers can last up to 6 months if treated correctly.
